The sleet and snow that come with winter weather can make for adverse driving conditions, so it's important to adjust your driving habits during such events.
Driving in sleet and snow all comes down to visibility and traction. Before you even get in your vehicle, make sure all your windows as well as the roof are clear of snow. Use your defroster to ensure good visibility. Once inside, it should go without saying to fasten your seat belt.
Make sure your snow tires are in good condition, and if chains are necessary, do install them. Don't make any quick starts or stops. Instead accelerate slowly and anticipate your stops by decelerating slowly and pumping your brakes. Allow significantly more space between you and the vehicle ahead of you. And, of course, drive slowly. Remember, black ice may appear in shade-covered areas on the road or when traversing bridges, but it can occur virtually anywhere.
