If you have owned a vehicle for any amount of time, you have probably heard some sort of dialog regarding the health of your brake pads. Here is what you need to know about these shiny discs and why it is important to maintain them at all costs.

Your brake pads are basically the connecting points between your calipers and rotors located on each wheel. When you hit your brakes, the pads firmly press against the rotors, causing the vehicle to slow down or come to a complete stop. These pads are an integral part of the braking system, and if they are worn down, your rotors can become damaged as a result of excess metal-to-metal contact.

A failing brake pad can warn you of its distress by igniting your brake indicator light, screeching loudly, or grinding during brake engagement. If you neglect to address these signals, your entire braking system could destruct, costing you quite a bit of cash.
